THE IMAGE

The photo I used as inspiration for this print was taken after a scenic drive on the Fort William to Mallaig road. It was a fairly dreich day but that just seemed to enhance the rugged landscape and romantic atmosphere of the place. We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves which I think may be unusual now due to the popular attraction of the Glenfinnan viaduct close by (where Harry Potter was filmed). Stood at the side of the loch was like standing in a painting and I hope I’ve managed to capture even just a little of the magic of this epic landscape.

The inscription on the image, ‘Ri Taobh Loch Seile’, simply means ‘beside Loch Shiel’ in Gaelic

Carol's paintings touch a nerve; once you have visited the Scottish Highlands you long to return. It gives me great solace to look at her wonderful paintings. "My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here"....(Robert Burns, Scotland's greatest poet)
